Start To Learn To Play The Guitar With Scales

A lot of teachers and books and resources have suggested guitar players to learn to play the guitar with scales. However, four out of five guitar players do not really follow the suggestions. The moment they can play some chords they immediately want to play some actual songs. That’s not going to make you a real guitar player. In this article, I’m going to mention the “why” about learning scales again. Because I went through the journey and I know what will be if you don’t learn scales.
Here are the 3 essentials of learning scales.
1. Scales are the basics of music
Everything you do with music you can’t do it without scales. No matter what type of music you play. Major scale, Minor scale, blues scale or pentatonic . You must apply for scales. And scales are the basic notes to form melody and chords. Many players don’t take this part seriously, they usually feel it’s just kind of finger patterns they practice every day. One of the reasons they feel like this way is because they didn’t practice correctly. To learn the scales you have to put it into real music, you have to learn the scales musically not just noodling around the fingerboard.
2. Mastering scales will make your solo stand out
When you play in a band or jam with other people you for sure want to play some crying solos to stand out. Scales are the tools to bring you up to that stage. If you find out that your solo sound same and want to add different test to it. Then you have to learn scales you have to be able to solo on everywhere of the fingerboard in any key. Then you could say you can actually “play” guitar now. You don’t want to be embarrassed when people ask you to play flat key sharp key in a jam session and you just can’t find where to go.
3. Mastering scales can make you play any songs in any key you want
When you learn scale in a key you will learn all the notes of the scale in that key. You learn all the grade of the notes. And then you will learn all the chords and the notes of those chords. If you think these are boring or too simple you will be sorry later. The key to learn the chords with the scales is to understand how the scales and chords are formed and instruct in the way they are. If you master the relationship between scales and chords in all keys then you can easily transpose a song into any keys you want. One of the most helpful exercises I benefit most is to pick up a song you like and to play the song in all keys. You start to play in Key of C and they follow the circle of fifth to go through all the 12 keys.
Have the three points convinced you to start to learn the scales seriously? Until this point I don’t think I need to explain any more about the importance of learning scales. Anyway, if you are just about to start to learn to play the guitar, then you should start with the scales. If you don’t you will come back soon later.
